Chartreuse BackYard Ultra

« Last One Standing »

Chartreuse Back Yard Ultra is a race through elimination until there is the « Last One Standing ».
The concept is easy to grasp : running at 7km/hour for the longest time possible, until there is only one runner left who is then proclaimed winner.
The exact pace is 6,704km/ hour, which is precisely the pace needed to complete a 100 miles in 24 24 hours (160,4 km/ 24h)

In practical terms :

  • all runners leave at the same time for a loop of 6,704km, they then have 1 hour max to complete the loop and refuel.
  • An hour later a new start is given for the exact same loop, to complete again in 1 hour maximum and refuel.
  • That, as long as needed until there is only one runner left in the race who then has to complete 1 more loop on his own to be declared winner (finisher)…

Racers who get to the finish line before the limit time can take advantage of this lead to fuel up, rest, shut their eyes for a few minutes, and present themselves again to the starting line for the new loop on time.

The ones who arrive back at camp just on time will not benefit from this lead and will not have time to refuel or rest, but will rather choose a slower, more regular pace to complete loops. Some others will alternate between the two.

So there is an entire strategy to build for runners when it comes to speed and recovery time … Running at 7km/h is relatively easily done, which makes this race as physically as mentally challenging…

The Chartreuse BackYard 2021 is officially QUALIFYING for the final in the USA in Tennessee, the “Big Dog’s Back Yard Ultra”. The organization will cover the plane ticket for the winner of the Chartreuse Back Yard to Tennessee.

In the end there will only be ONE left.

But wouldn’t it be the opportunity to take up your OWN challenge : run a HALF-MARATHON for the 1st time ? A MARATHON ? 100 KILOMETERS ? 100 MILES IN 24 HOURS ? etc…

Of course, this will take place running at 6,706 km per hour, and with the very special rules of Chartreuse BACKYARD ULTRA, but the organization will be there for you, and rhythm will go like a clock with a short break each hour before the new start.

Come to run in an incredible atmosphere, take up YOUR challenge for yourself, … and in any case in the end there will only be ONE left…
